After catching up with Rt Hon Peter Lilley MP on Thursday night at the Harpenden Hustings, Peter kindly came out to canvass with me in Batford on Saturday too.
We had a great turnout from many of the local Conservatives team including councillors and supporters, and the weather was glorious, which always makes canvassing even more enjoyable!
We managed to meet lots of residents and got lots of feedback and questions – which is the point of it all.
One thing that was crystal clear for me by the end of the canvassing was how highly Peter is regarded as a local MP. There was lots of really positive feedback about his hard work for Harpenden over the past 25 years – especially his continued battles to protect our Green Belt. Something I am passionate about too.
Not surprisingly, conversations on the doorstep were as diverse as always, ranging from immigration to specific local concerns like potholes. So I’ll be covering more of these over the coming fortnight with my ‘Canvassing Questions’ blog posts.
Peter Lilley was out again today as well mingling in the crowd, at our wonderful Harpenden Farmers Market, to answer any questions from local residents. People seemed genuinely pleased to see him and as usual there was no shortage of questions and conversation – often with people just saying ‘thank you’ for doing such a good job as a local MP.
We even both managed to buy a few things whilst we were both at the market. So overall an excellent weekend!
